Your Mental Health Deserves a Root-Cause Answer

You have been told it is stress. Or hormones. Or just getting older.

You have tried the pills. Maybe they helped a little. Maybe they didn't help at all.

You are still not yourself. And no one seems to be asking why.

This May, Mental Health Awareness Month, we want to say something plainly: a diagnosis is not an answer. It is a starting point.

Mental Health Awareness Month is a reminder that lasting wellness begins with understanding the root cause, not just managing the symptoms.

May Is Mental Health Awareness Month

Every May, Mental Health Awareness Month invites us to talk openly about what so many people carry quietly. Anxiety. Depression. Burnout. Brain fog. The kind of low-grade suffering that does not look dramatic from the outside but costs everything on the inside.

At Solshine Wellness Group, we participate in this month not with slogans but with an honest clinical question: what is actually causing your symptoms? Not what label fits them. What is driving them.

The answer is almost never simple. And it is almost never just one thing.

Why So Many People Stay Stuck

Standard mental health care operates on a model that is built for speed. A 15-minute appointment. A symptom checklist. A prescription. Follow up in 90 days.

That model helps some people. It misses many others. And the people it misses the most are often the ones who are already doing everything right.

If you have tried therapy, antidepressants, lifestyle changes, and still do not feel like yourself, that is not a failure of effort. It is a sign that something biological has not been looked at yet.

What Gets Missed in a Standard Workup

  • Subclinical thyroid dysfunction: Normal TSH does not mean optimal thyroid function. Free T3 and reverse T3 tell a different story, and thyroid imbalance mimics depression precisely.

  • Hormonal shifts: Estrogen and progesterone directly regulate GABA and serotonin. As they fluctuate in perimenopause, anxiety and depression can appear with no psychological trigger.

  • Nutrient deficiencies: B12, magnesium, vitamin D, and zinc are all required for neurotransmitter production. You cannot medicate your way past a missing substrate.

  • HPA axis dysregulation: A dysregulated cortisol pattern from chronic stress creates a nervous system that cannot calm down. No SSRI targets this mechanism.

  • Gut-brain dysfunction: The gut produces more than 90% of the body's serotonin. Dysbiosis and gut permeability directly impair mood, cognition, and emotional resilience.

  • Neuroinflammation: Elevated inflammatory markers including hsCRP and homocysteine are now recognized as drivers of treatment-resistant depression. This is rarely checked in a standard panel.

"Depression and anxiety are not character flaws. They are signals. The question is not whether something is wrong. The question is what your biology is trying to tell you."

— Dr. Ravyn Ramos, ND, MHA, MSN, FNP-C

What Makes Solshine Wellness Group Different

There are a lot of wellness providers. What sets Solshine apart is not a philosophy. It is a clinical method, a set of credentials, and a commitment to not guessing.

🔬

We run the labs most providers skip.

Our mental health workup includes full thyroid panels, 4-point salivary cortisol, complete sex hormone evaluation, micronutrient testing, inflammatory markers, and fasting metabolic panels. We do not rely on a TSH and a questionnaire.

🎓

Dr. Ramos holds dual advanced credentials.

Dr. Ravyn Ramos is both a licensed naturopathic doctor (ND) and a board-certified family nurse practitioner (FNP-C) with a Master of Health Administration and a Master of Science in Nursing. She brings over 16 years of clinical experience to every patient encounter.

💊

We offer drug-free tools alongside medication.

Alpha-Stim is an FDA-cleared cranial electrotherapy stimulation (CES) device for anxiety, insomnia, and depression. It works at the level of the thalamus and brainstem to restore alpha wave activity. No systemic side effects. No weight gain. No sexual dysfunction. It can be used alongside existing medication or as a stand-alone intervention.

🌿

We treat the whole system, not the symptom.

IM nutrient injections, bioidentical hormone therapy, gut repair protocols, and personalized supplement plans all work together in a care model designed around your specific lab findings. Nothing is prescribed without evidence. Everything is tailored to you.

🤝

We work with your existing providers.

Every Solshine patient is required to maintain a primary care provider. We function as an integrative layer that complements, not replaces, your current care team. We communicate with your providers and coordinate care across specialties.

📍

You can see us from home.

Dr. Ramos operates primarily via telehealth throughout Washington state and is also licensed in Iowa, Virginia, New York, and Arizona. Our Lynnwood clinic sees patients in person on Thursdays, with Fridays available by special arrangement.

Dr. Ramos reviews comprehensive lab panels to identify the biological drivers behind each patient's mental health symptoms.

A Note on Medication

Solshine does not ask patients to stop their medication. If you are currently taking an SSRI, SNRI, or other psychiatric medication, we do not adjust or discontinue anything without coordination with your prescribing provider.

What we offer is an investigative layer. We find out what is driving your symptoms. We address those root causes directly. Some patients, over time and in close collaboration with their prescribers, find they are able to reduce medication doses. That is never the starting goal. The starting goal is understanding what is actually going on.

When Anxiety and Depression Overlap

Most patients who come to us carry both. Anxiety by day. Depression by night. A nervous system that cannot switch off and a mood that cannot lift.

These are not two separate problems. They share biological drivers: cortisol dysregulation, low progesterone, B12 depletion, thyroid insufficiency, and gut inflammation all produce both simultaneously. Treating them separately with different medications rarely resolves the underlying pattern.

We treat them as a system. That is what root-cause care means in practice.

"Most of our patients have already done the work. They have been to therapy. They have tried medication. What they haven't had is a provider who looked at the biology underneath."

— Dr. Ravyn Ramos, ND, MHA, MSN, FNP-C

This May, Ask a Different Question

Mental Health Awareness Month is not just about reducing stigma. It is about raising the standard of care.

You deserve more than a label and a prescription. You deserve a provider who asks what is driving your symptoms, runs the right tests, and builds a plan around what they find.

That is what we do. Every patient. Every time.

"You are not broken. Your biology is sending a signal. Let us find out what it is saying."
